NEW DELHI: The Delhi government will launch its 'Loan app' for students of the SC/ST community in Delhi on December 9, in addition to the free coaching scheme, Delhi Welfare minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said on Monday.
"We are launching a mobile app where students can enrol for the loans and the government will take care of the whole official procedure," said Gautam.
Talking to Millennium Post, Gautam said, "I want all beneficiaries of this project and SC, ST, and other backward community people to be present at the program."
The loan app will be monitored by the Delhi Social Welfare department and the Delhi SC/ST/OBC/Minorities and Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (DSFDC).
Gautam assured that he will coordinate with DSFDC and personally monitor the operation of the app.
The loan money for SC/ST students will be provided by DSFDC.
"This app will make the life of SC/ST students easier. We are all set to go ahead with the scheme," an official of the Social Welfare department said.
The app will be launched at a programme, which will be presided over by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
At the programme, Gautam will also launch the scheme of free coaching for IAS, medical and engineering aspirants from the SC/ST background.
The minister asserted that Kejriwal has lauded the initiative as a first of its kind in the country.
"The government plans to give free coaching classes for SC/ST students in Delhi for professional courses, such as civil services, engineering and others," said Gautam.
He added that the government will not arrange separate classes for these students, but will train them along side general category students.
"I believe that separate tutorials for SC/ST children in these professional courses are not helpful. They have all the potential to sit in the same class with others," Gautam said.
