Live-in partner of jailed gangster shot dead in Dwarka's Pochanpur

New Delhi: A 42-year-old woman was shot six times to death in Pochanpur area of Dwarka district on Monday morning. Police claimed that the investigation in the case is going on from all angles including gang war and personal enmity. The woman had feared for her life and accordingly sought police protection which was granted.

The woman was a resident of Dwarka's Pochanpur village and was in a live-in relationship with Monu. In May, Monu allegedly killed Sandeep Mental, member of a rival gang, and is currently in jail on charges of murder. Police, prima facie, suspect that the accused may be from a rival gang who killed her for revenge. Investigators are also probing the role of a criminal who escaped from the police custody.

"It is the matter of investigation. The probe is on from all angles. We have registered a case in this regard," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse. The place where the incident took place is located in Pochanpur village where the woman was living on the ground floor of the house whereas the first floor was given on rent. The house had more than two CCTV cameras installed outside.

Revealing the sequence of the event, an investigator told the Millennium Post that her son went outside and left the gate open when the two accused came in a motorcycle at about 10 am. They entered the house and started firing at her indiscriminately and fled. In a few minutes, the PCR vans reached the spot and took the woman to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. She was shot at least times.

Sources claimed that the accused took 20 to 30 seconds for committing the crime and fled the spot. One maid was present at the spot whereas her son had gone for tuition classes.

The police said that they are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras in the area. Raids are being conducted at several places in Delhi and Haryana to nab the two men and others involved in the incident. A senior police officer claimed that police protection was given to the woman whenever she required. "Before leaving the house, she was told to inform the SHO of the concerned area who would send security for her," said a police officer. A day before the incident, police personnel had gone to the house of the woman to review safety and security measures. The Special Cell of Delhi Police in June arrested the her live-in partner Monu from near Chhawala Village after a brief shootout. On May 2, when Sandeep alias Mental was going to attend a court in Dwarka with his close aide Pawan, both were shot dead near Bamnoli village by Monu and his associates.

In another case, a 28-year-old woman was shot at allegedly by her husband in Mahipalpur area of southwest Delhi on Monday morning.
