Live-in partner kills woman, arrested

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old woman was strangulated to death by her live-in partner in Shastri Park area of Seelampur.

The woman's brother called the police when he was unable to reach her on the mobile on Tuesday evening. When the police team reached the spot, they found that the woman identified as Zeenat was lying unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital where she was declared brought dead.

According to police, Zeenat, a resident of Loni, was married and had three children. Due to marital discord, she moved in with her paramour Ajay in a rented accommodation in Shastri Park.

However, Zeenat who worked as a maid, was pressurised by Ajay to give him money as he had no source of income.

"It was just three days that the couple had moved in Shastri Park. Later, they had a dispute when Ajay, who is unemployed asked her for money. He then strangulated and fled after she refused to give him any money," said a senior police officer.

The body was sent for postmortem and the family members were questioned to get details about the accused Ajay.

A police team was immediately formed under the leadership of SHO Seelampur Inder Kumar Jha. The cops then found that Ajay was primarily located in Chandni Chowk area and based on a tip-off, he was arrested on Wednesday from North East Delhi within 24 hours of the murder.
