LG reviews progress of sanitation, beautification works across city

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Monday chaired a meeting to review the progress of sanitation and beautification works under the three Municipal Corporations, which reportedly are not progressing smoothly.
The Commissioners of all three civic bodies apprised Baijal of the measures taken regarding cleanliness, sanitation, redevelopment of markets and other important issues of MCDs in Delhi.
"With regards to use of toilets in restaurants (and petrol pumps), it was informed that all toilet facilities have been made available free of charge for women and children," said the Commissioners told the LG. The LG was also informed about the steps taken for proper lighting in and around the toilets complexes.
He directed all local bodies to continue taking steps that focus on cleanliness and sanitation of the areas and ensure that community is also involved in maintenance of assets.
Baijal directed that weekly progress report must be sent to the Principal Secretary (Urban Development).
East Delhi Municipal Corporation informed about steps being taken for beautification under two flyovers, which will be complete by mid January, and for re-development of four markets.
Progress about encroachment removal on 29 identified stretches was also reviewed. Baijal emphasised that encroachment should not take place again at places which are cleared of encroachments.
