LG Baijal visits riot-affected areas of N-E Delhi

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday visited the riot-affected areas of northeast Delhi such as Khajuri Khas, Tyre Market, Gokalpuri, Yamuna Vihar and other violence affected areas along with Commissioner of Delhi Police, S N Shrivastava, Spl. Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Jt. Commissioner of Police, Commissioner, EDMC, District Magistrates (Shahdara & North-East) and other concerned officers. and took stock of the situation . Baijal held a review meeting with officials on several issues, including security. He also held a meeting with peace committees in northeast Delhi.

The Delhi Police till Wednesday had registered 531 FIRs and arrested or detained 1,647 people in connection with the communal violence that claimed at least 42 lives. 47 of the cases were registered under the Arms Act, an officer said.

The situation in the riot-affected areas is under control, police said. Security forces continue to be deployed in riot-affected areas and have been conducting regular flag marches to ensure that the situation remains calm.
