LG apprises Rajnath Singh of deadlock in Delhi government

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing lockdown between the elected Delhi government and the bureaucracy which started after the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday briefed the situation in the Capital to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Meanwhile, a joint forum of employees and officers of the Delhi government also discussed the situation with Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha on Saturday.
An official of the Home Ministry said that during the 30-minute meeting, the LG apprised the Home Minister of his interactions with Delhi's bureaucrats, many of whom complained about the alleged high-handedness of the MLAs, and a delegation of Delhi's ruling party, which conveyed to the LG the non-attendance of officers in regular meetings.
Baijal briefed Singh on the police action which followed the alleged assault on Prakash, the official added.
During its meeting with the Cabinet Secretary, the joint forum of employees and officers of Delhi government also raised the issue of alleged assault on the Chief Secretary and apprised him about the "difficult working condition" prevailing in the AAP dispensation.
During the meeting, episodes over the past few years and the current one involving Prakash were detailed, the forum said in a statement.
The developments come a day after Delhi Police searched the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for CCTV footage of the alleged assault on Prakash by two AAP MLAs.
On Tuesday, the Chief Secretary had alleged that he was beaten up by AAP MLAs Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal – in the presence of Kejriwal – on Monday night at the Chief Minister's residence, where the Chief Secretary had been called for an emergency meeting.
Following this, bureaucrats had declared that they would not meet or talk over phone to the Chief Minister, his ministers or MLAs till Kejriwal apologises for the alleged assault.
For the past two days, Delhi government employees across the city have also been observing a five-minute silence outside their respective offices every day, as a mark of protest.
