Lawyers create 'lawlessness' amidst strike, police and public roughed up

New Delhi: A Delhi policeman on bike was mercilessly assaulted by lawyers at Saket Court premises on Monday, the video that was filmed from top went viral soon after. A bearded lawyer in white shirt and black trouser was seen repeatedly hitting the policeman with his elbows followed by slaps on his face as the policeman drove away. In another video which went viral, a man was seen brutally assaulted by protesting lawyers outside the Saket court. His clothes were torn, was punched and grounded by the lawyers as the strike against the police went violent with lawyers going berserk on Delhi roads halting traffic and manhandling general public. The lawyers have called for a strike across Delhi courts on Monday protesting against the Delhi police after Tis Hazari court firing on Saturday afternoon. The general public was forcefully stopped to enter the courts even.

"They thrashed me and broke by phone as I was simply talking to my lawyer outside the Saket court gates. I was brutally assaulted and my clothes were torn," said the victim.

The same violence was seen outside Karkardooma court in East Delhi where the protesting lawyers thrashed another man on bike as he tried to make way amongst the protesting lawyers on road. The man had to run leaving his bike behind.

Several media persons were also manhandled by the lawyers who were demanding immediate arrest of the police officers who opened fire at Tis Hazari.

"I was roughed up, threatened by the lawyers at Tis Hazari, they wanted me to speak to them only and not to the cops posted there. Though I stood my ground, a passerby who recorded the video got his phone damaged," said a journalist covering the protest.

Throughout the protest, the Delhi Police water cannon or other mob control measures were seen missing from the active spot. It seems the Delhi Police was under pressure not to act against the protesters. Several IPS officers also debated if it was 'restraint' or 'inaction' by the police authorities.

A judicial inquiry into the clash between advocates and the Delhi Police at the Tis Hazari Court complex has already been initiated.

Special Commissioner (in-charge Law and Order) Sanjay Singh has already been removed following the violence on Saturday between the Delhi Police and lawyers at the Tis Hazari Court. The police have transferred the (ASI) Pawan Kumar and suspended ASI Kamta Prasad.
