Lawyer sentenced to 3-yr jail for duping client

Gurugram: Gurugram district court convicted a lawyer for cheating his disabled client. The lawyer, identified as Raj Pal Chadhury, has been sentenced to three year of jail term. It took more than nine year for the culmination of the trial that began in the year 2008 when Nuh resident Sahabbudin filed a case against Chadhury. The court in its order read that legal profession is considered a noble profession, but of late, numerous instances of misguiding the litigants has shaken the belief of litigants in the legal system and must be dealt heavily. Shahbudin had lost his hand due to an accident in the company and had approached the lawyer for getting adequate compensation. He was granted Rs 5.63 lakh. While Rs. 3 lakh was delivered to him directly, the rest was to be delivered to him in form of FD's. Taking advantage of the client's ignorance, the lawyer broke his FD's with a fake name and took the rest of the amount.
