NEW DELHI: Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal on Wednesday directed that land owning agencies to keep strict vigil to stop dumping of waste. The LG reviewed the problem of Faecal material disposal in drains & bad odour near drains and violation of material disposal rules in Delhi. "In Delhi, nearly 50% population is dependent on on-site sanitation systems like septic tanks especially in the periphery of the city. These septic tanks are cleaned using private operators and the faecal sludge is often dumped in the nallahs or drains. It was informed that nearly 4 million liters of septage/faecal sludge are collected per day in
Delhi," noted a statement. It was also informed that waste is not being disposed of properly and can be seen dumped all over the city along the major roads and contributing significantly in the concentration of PM 10.
