Labourer dies as mud falls on him inside pit in Dwarka

New Delhi: A 23-year-old labourer died after mud fell on him inside a pit in Dwarka's district on Tuesday. Police said that another person, who was also buried under the mud, was rescued by the staff. A case has been registered in this regard.

Police said that on Tuesday around 3.30 pm, they received a PCR call in which caller told them that two persons are buried inside the mud. Without wasting any time, the team reached the spot and take both the labourers to the hospital where one of them declared brought dead.

Later, the deceased was identified as Prempal, a native of Kashganj in Uttar Pradesh. He was taken to hospital in the police vehicle.

Another victim in the case Gaurav (18) is the native of Bulandshar.

"We have registered a case on the statement of the victim and investigation is going on to check the negligence in the case," said an officer.

According to an official, both of them were involved in a work related to wiring in the pit, suddenly the mud fell on them and they got trapped inside the pit.

The people, who were near the spot, alerted the police regarding the incident.

"We are probing the role of the contractor and also checking if there was any document like contract details were given to labourers," added officer.

Labourers under risk

This is not the first time where the poor labourers becomes the victims in such incidents. Recently two labourers died and four others were injured after the wall of an aluminium factory collapsed in Dilshad Garden industrial area.

Last year in Sawan Park in North West Delhi, there were five persons including four children died after a dilapidated four-storey building collapsed.

In October 2018, four persons including an engineer died in Rohini district area after they fell with the lift. In July, a woman in her late 50s died after her saree came in contact with a machine in Narela area of Rohini district.

Minor killed

In another tragic incident, a two years old girl died in Dwarka's Dabri area. The incident was reported on Thursday when the girl died after the e-rickshaw turned turtle. Police have registered a case in this regard.
