L-G holds meeting to curb street crimes

New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal chaired a meeting on Tuesday to review the core preventive strategies to effectively curb various street crimes. L-G directed that senior police officers should themselves patrol the streets during day/night to monitor exercise effectively.

According to Raj Niwas press statement, special commissioner (Crime) presented the trend of various types of street crimes and measures already put in place by Delhi Police to effectively curb them. "It was submitted that identification of criminals, Bad Characters, proclaimed offenders, history-sheeters, criminals out of jail on parole/bail etc is being done regularly," added press statement.

The statement further added that it was also informed that 64 vulnerable stretches (29 North Zone and 35 South Zone)have been identified by the police like Mathura Road – Ashram Chowk to Badarpur Flyover, Lala Lajpat Rai Road, Signature Bridge to Bhopura Border, Rani Jhansi Road, ISBT Kashmere Gate to Khalsa College, etc and extra patrolling by PCR Vans is being done in these stretches under the supervision of ACP/PCR especially during 10 PM to 3 AM. In regards of curbing of illicit liquor sale, drugs and arms, LG desired that effective action should be taken in coordination with neighbouring states. "LG directed that visibility of police on the streets be enhanced and be further extended inside the residential colonies especially during nights and more Mobikes be put into service," added press statement.
