Khattar announces new anti-terror force for Gurugram

Gurugram: To make sure that Gurugram does not face any terrorism incident, the Haryana government has decided to form an anti-terror force. The new force will be named Kavach (armory).

This was announced by the Haryana Chief Minister who was in the city as part of the programmes organised to mark four years of his government.

The Chief Minister said that at a time when Gururgam has achieved the tag of a metropolitan city, it was important that preparations should be made to make the city secure from any terrorist activity.

There will be 150 commandos that will be enrolled in the new force. Not only will these commandos be trained by the NSG, but they are also expected to have their camp at the Manesar where the NSG camp is situated.

The Chief Minister defended the decision to invest in the new force by saying that a time when major cities in the world are vulnerable to terrorism, his government cannot take a chance. The force will be a part of the Gurugram police and will be headed by officials of Inspector General (IG) rank.

"No one expected that terrorists will strike in Mumbai in 2008 and Delhi in 2005 but they did happen. We have to prepare ourselves to meet any eventuality and therefore, we are forming this anti-terror force. The personnel who will be recruited in the force will be fit and alert and will be able to defend the city," said Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

"Gurugram today has headquarters of 200 multi-billion dollar companies over here. There are various new investments that are expected in the city. Definitely, we want to provide security to the investors and employees," he further added.

Earlier, the Haryana government provided training to police officials to prepare them in dealing with terrorist activities. However, this is for the for the first time that the government has decided to form an exclusive anti-terror force.

This is in addition to the special task force that was formed by the Haryana government in February this year to deal with dreaded criminals. Subsequently, the Haryana government also increased their strength to deal with cyber and drug crimes.
