Jewellery shop robbed in Ghaziabad at gunpoint

Ghaziabad: Two armed bike-borne assailants robbed a jewellery shop in Loni area of Ghaziabad on Saturday evening after keeping the shop owner and his wife hostage at gun-point. The robbers thrashed the jeweller and his wife and fled away with jewellery worth Rs 4 lakhs and some cash.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on Saturday in Keshav market of Loni. Rajnath Gupta, owner of Gupta jewellers, was sitting at his shop along with his wife when two robbers riding on a bike broke into his shop and robbed them at gunpoint.

"It was around 8 pm when my wife had come to my shop as we had planned to go to Delhi to meet one of friends. Suddenly, two men riding on a motorcycle came into my shop and asked me to show them jewelleries. They took us at gun-point and started thrashing us. The criminals fled away taking jewelleries worth Rs 4 lakhs and some cash," said Gupta.

"My wife was three months pregnant and when she was thrashed by the robbers, she suffered a miscarriage. We had planned so many things for our child but the robbery incident has ruined all our dreams. We demand strictest actions to be taken against the accused persons," added Gupta.

Meanwhile, senior cops have sent the Chowki in-charge of DLF police post to lines as the victim alleged that SI Ramnarayan Singh refused to take his complaint when he reported the matter to him.

"Based on the victim's allegations, we have sent the Chowki in-charge of DLF police post to police lines and an internal inquiry has been sent up against him. We are verifying the allegations made by the victim and appropriate actions will be taken against the cop. Initially we have lodged an FIR under sections of robbery and will add further sections once we receive the medical reports of the woman," said Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, Superintendent of Police (rural), Ghaziabad.
