Jamia student stabbed by pickpocket while travelling in DTC bus

NEW DELHI: A student of Jamia Millia Islamia was stabbed by a pickpocket while travelling in DTC cluster bus near Jamia metro station after the victim caught a pickpocket trying to steal his phone on Thursday.

Victim Asad Ahmed, a final year student of B.Ed, has been admitted to AIIMS where he is said to be out of danger.

The incident was reported at around 2:45 pm on Wednesday.

The injured student has been identified as Asad Ahmed, his friend who was also with him at that time reported the matter to the police. Asad is studying in B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) final in Jamia University.

DCP, Southeast, Chinmoy Biswal said, "The victim Asad Ahmed along with his classmate Krishna Chand boarded a bus from Sarai Jullena route no 507 to Jamia. In a huge crowded bus, one boy was reportedly touching Krishna Chand's pocket. He doubted on two persons that maybe they are pickpockets. He along with friend Asad tried to catch them."

When the bus stopped, one of the suspected persons waved a surgical blade and attacked on Asad who received injury on his hand and lower abdomen. He was taken for first aid and later shifted to AIIMS trauma centre.

A case under section 324/34 IPC ( Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) has been registered and the investigation is on.
