Jamia student commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old student of the Jamia Millia Islamia University allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his rented accommodation in Okhla Vihar on Monday. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

According to police, the victim has been identified as Irfan BK, a first-year student, who was pursuing Master of Arts (Psychology) at the university. He was from Kerala. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, the police said, adding a probe is underway to ascertain the exact reason of his death.

A varsity official said, "he was a first-year student and had enrolled as a student in July. He belonged to Kerala."

His parents have been informed and the reason why he committed suicide is being probed. The police is also analysing his call details to know who he talked to before taking this extreme step.

The boy committed suicide due to family or personal reasons or due to academics is still unknown.

Police is trying to talk to his friends with whom he often had a telephonic conversation.
