Jaitley inaugurates sewage treatment plan

New Delhi: Union Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley on Friday inaugurated the Sewerage Treatment Plant at Lodhi Garden. The Sewerage Treatment Plant having the capacity of 500 KLD has been constructed by New Delhi Municipal Council.
"I am impressed with a local body (NDMC) which is not discharging its functions but also endeavoring to discharge them in an environmentally sustainable manner," said Jaitley.
"I found the decentralized sewerage treatment plant exceptionally good, even better than what I understood from its brief. Use of such simple technologies and cost effective methods will not only preserve the environment but also enrich it," he added.
The Chairman, NDMC Naresh Kumar while explaining the USPs of the STP which is setup at Lodhi Garden he said that it is based on a Green Technology namely Soil Bio-Technology (SBT) which is one of its kind and has many benefits like no noise pollution, no air pollution, no odour nuisance, and no VOC emission generation
He added that the Council earlier setup a first of its kind of STP in New Delhi area which is based on MBR (Membrane Bio-Reactor) Technology at Shanti Path, Moti Bagh.
The PPP project is a green initiative by NDMC in the direction of resource conversation and aims to set up STPs in some of the most posh gardens of the Lutyen zone.
The Chairman informed that seven decentralised STPs has been completed and two such plants which are in advanced stage will be completed within one month.
