IP University may open its East Delhi campus by 2020
NEW DELHI: East Delhi will get its first university campus by 2020 noted a statement issued by the Delhi Government. The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia inspected the construction work of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University's East Delhi campus.
"The state of the art building would be ready in a few months and it will start its educational operation from the next academic session (2020). The campus will have hostels for both boys and girls," noted the statement.
The East Delhi Campus of the IP University is being built on 18 acre land. The campus will have two colleges, one for design and another for architecture. It will cater to 2,000 students in every batch. "It is worth mentioning here that the new campus was pushed by the AAP government during its first tenure of 49-days in 2013-14. However, the land was not allotted to the government during its tenure then," the statement of the Delhi government noted.
It further observed that during the L-G rule in Delhi, the campus was inaugurated without the land transferred by the DDA.
"When the AAP government came back to power in 2015, it again started pushing for the new campus. When checked it came to know that the campus was inaugurated but the land was yet to be transferred," the AAP-led Delhi government's statement noted.
According to the officials of the government, Deputy CM pushed for the project and ultimately the government bought the land from the DDA for the new campus and after some delay, the work on the campus started. "Now with the continuous push by the Education Minister and support from the Chief Minister, the eastern part of the city will soon get a state of the art campus," noted the statement.
Earlier, at the time of election also the AAP promised that this campus would be built by 2020. On Thursday Delhi CM, Deputy CM and the senior officials visited the site and also monitored the ongoing work. The senior engineers showed a presentation of the work and also discussed the deadline. Earlier the deadline was set as the November this year which was delayed due to various reasons.
