Involved in 36 car theft cases in posh areas, 2 Meerut men held

New Delhi: Parking the cars in the colony's open space or lanes can prove costly as the car thieves find it easy to strike and drive away with the stolen cars. When the Delhi Police arrested two Meerut-based car jackers active in South East Delhi, they got to know that they have solved at least eight recent cases of car theft and arrested two men named Asim and Shahrukh involved in 36 cases of car theft. Most of their carjacking was from Posh areas like Lajpat Nagar, CR park, Greater Kailash and Amar Colony. Cops also found that they also tried their hands in Noida and have stolen cars. Most of the stolen cars were Honda City, Santro and Chevrolet Sail.

An interesting thing Police found was the modus operandi of the two accused. Accused Aasim and his associate Shahrukh mostly targeted the cars parked in dark stretches during night hours. "While stealing the cars, accused persons first used to park their car alongside their targeted car. They used to unlock the targeted car after breaking the rear quarter glass, unlock the steering with the help of drill machine and would use alternate ECMs to start the car," said Chinmoy Biswal, DCP (south east).

Accused Aasim used to deliver the stolen cars to Aas Mohammad alias Bada Pappu and Zuhur. Thereafter, the alleged Aas Mohamad and Zuhur used to fabricate the forged documents of ownership of the vehicles and then they altered the chassis no and engine no with the help of punching machine. Sometimes they parked the stolen cars at Yamuna Khadar area and when they find the suitable customer they sell the vehicle. Accused Aasim disclosed that he had parked stolen cars in the area of Yamuna Khadar at Jaitpur and on his instance, three stolen cars were recovered.
