In guise of pilgrims, gang targeted jewellery of tourists

New Delhi: For the last several years, Raju with his gang members has been wearing pilgrim clothes and visiting religious places in the city. From there, they targeted jewellery of other tourists and fled the spot within no time in their car. The snatching spree finally came to an end after they were arrested from Jharoda Kalan area on July 18.

Apart from 45-year-old Raju, the other accused were identified as Renu (36) (name changed) and Rahul (36). They are the natives of Harayana. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Dr G. Ram Gopal Naik stated that during interrogation, they disclosed that they used to snatch gold chains in crowded places. They wake up early in the morning at 2.30 - 3 AM and dress up very neatly in traditional clothes so that they conceal their identity from the police and use their Mahindra Xylo car to reach religious places from Palwal in Haryana.

"After reaching the religious place in early hours, they mingle in the crowd and whenever they get the opportunity, they used to snatch the gold chain from the Pilgrims or devotees. They mainly targeted women who used to wear jewellery items," said the DCP.
