Illegal encroachments near Mahagun society demolished

In the wake of tightening security in the area and to curb on the illegal encroachments, the Noida Authority on Monday demolished dozens of slums by the side of Mahagun Moderne Society in Sector 78.
The drive was initiated following complaints from the residents of the Mahagun society that these slums are creating a threat for them as they suspect the mob of attackers to be living there.
"We have initiated a drive to demolish all the slums and illegal encroachments built on the authority's land by the side of hi-rise apartments in various sectors of Noida.
"In the first phase the encroachments by the side of Mahagun Moderne in Sector 78 were removed. Similar drive will be carried out by us to demolish all such encroachments by the sides of residential societies," said a senior official from Noida Authority.
"We have also warned the encroachers not to carry out any illegal construction activity in the future else strict actions will be taken against them," added the officer.
The drive begun at around 11 am on Monday.
The domestic workers who work in the nearby societies used to live in these slum houses.
Heavy police force was deployed in the area to avoid any situation of violence or opposition by these resident workers.
Under the fear of getting arrested many people living in these slums have been absconding from their homes to evade arrest.
According to the police, over 300 people had gathered at the gate of Mahagun Moderne around 6 am on Wednesday, last week, alleging that one of its residents had assaulted a domestic help, Zohra Bibi.
They had managed to overpower the security guards and vandalized the premises.
Tension engulfed the area after the mob attack, due to which the residents of the society listed 60 domestic helps and banned their entry into the society.
The residents also met the MLA of Noida, Pankaj Singh on Saturday, asking him to tighten the security in the area and built up a police station nearby their society.
