Illegal construction: South MCD panel wants to catch big fish

The SDMC's Nodal Steering Committee (NSC) on Tuesday took note of the mushrooming of unauthorized construction and action taken on the part of the zonal building Department. The committee stressed upon the need of catching the big fish.
The NSC stated that no unauthorised construction should go unnoticed, and on detection of the same, immediate steps be taken to prevent the same as per law. The NSC asked the Zonal DCs to give a list of five big properties/commercial properties under their jurisdiction in which action has been taken against unauthorized construction along with photographs.
It also directed all DCs to identify five big commercial properties which have unauthorized construction and to send a report on action taken or proposed to be taken in 10 days. The NSC asked DCs to submit action taken against those 130 buildings referred in a decision of high court in matter of an NGO vs SDMC by Wednesday failing which erring officers will be taken to task. The committee asked the DCs to inspect area under their jurisdiction and identify within 10 days, all properties wherein the construction of fourth and above floors/commercial construction is being carried out in unauthorized way.
It also directed the DCs to intimate the names of separate teams constituted by them for detection and demolition of unauthorized constructions.
It further directed all DC's to give a certificate to the effect that no further construction on the properties which are under litigation has been carried out and if any construction has taken place, action taken against the concerned erring officers during the pendency of the Court Case.
