Hussain reviews 32 lakh plantation target work

NEW DELHI: Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Tuesday reviewed the performance of all greening agencies regarding their targets for trees and shrubs plantation for the current financial year. "During the meeting, the targets achieved during 2018-19 were reviewed. The target set for the current financial year is 32.27 lakh plantations of trees and shrubs. Majority of the landowning agencies informed that they have achieved the plantation targets set for them for the current financial year, 2018-19," said an official.

Hussain expressed concern regarding low green plantation done by Delhi Development Authority. DDA has planted only 2.5 lakh trees against its target of 8.75 lakh trees for 2018-19 affirmed by them in various meetings. He expressed hope that DDA will try best to achieve the targets set by them. Hussain directed the agencies to ensure the survival of plantations, as only then the main purpose of greening Delhi for countering the adverse effects of air pollution, could be served.
