Hostel for girls at Janki Devi Memorial College to be open from second semester

To provide accommodation to its students inside the college premises, Delhi University's Janki Devi Memorial College announced setting up of a 105-bed hostel. The college administration stated that the hostel will be fully functional by the second semester of the upcoming academic session.
With this, Janki Devi Memorial will join the list of colleges that provide accommodation for girl students, along with Miranda House, Daulat Ram, Lady Shri Ram, Indraprastha College for Women, among others.
"The college will cater as many as 105 students with 35 rooms; each room will accommodate three students. The hostel facility will be made available to undergraduate students only. The rooms would be allocated after internal consultation. Guidelines regarding allotment of rooms would be decided by the college's governing body. The criteria would almost be the same as that in other DU colleges," said Dr Swati Pal, the college's principal.
To make the accommodation suitable for differently-abled students, the hostel has special provisions. Washrooms, ramps and other necessary facilities have been built keeping this in mind. The custom-built ground floor will be reserved for physically challenged students.
The hostel will have laundry facility, common room, dining area and a kitchen. Dr Pal added that CCTV cameras will be installed and a security guard will be stationed to stand guard round the clock.
The hostel also boasts of solar panels, LED lights and rainwater harvesting system.
