Highway robber who looted people by offering lift arrested

New Delhi: A 28 years old highway robber who robbed a person by giving him lift in the taxi was arrested from Sohna in Harayana. The accused had forcefully withdrew victim's money through his ATM cards before dumping him at isolated place.

Police identified the accused as Arshad Khan, resident of Gurugram in Haryana.

The law enforcement agency in their press statement said that on January 24, the complainant came to Vasant Kunj (South) police station and informed that on January 14, at around 7:30 PM when he was waiting at Mahipalpur Chowk at NH-8 for a rideable vehicle to reach his office at Gurugram, a taxi came there and offered him ride for Gurugram.

"He boarded into the taxi in which three passengers (accused associates) were already present. When they reached near the mall at NH-8, they forcefully robbed his belongings including his mobile phone and purse with an ATM card and cash of Rs. 1,500," police said. The complainant was thrashed and taken to Sohna from where they threatened him and got his ATM card's PIN code from him.

They accused withdrew Rs.1.50 lakh from his account through ATMs and kept him with them till 2.00 AM in the night. After that they dumped the complainant at an isolated place near KMP Expressway, Haryana.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Devender Arya said that Vasant Kunj (South) police team started reconstruction of the entire sequence of events right from the start of commission of crime from where taxi had commenced its journey and up to the place where the victim was dumped by the assailants.

On March 11 on the basis of secret information the accused was arrested from Sohna after a raid conducted by team of Inspector Sanjeev Kumar which was constituted under the supervision of Sh. Ramesh Kumar, ACP (Vasant Vihar)

DCP Arya further stated that during preliminary interrogation, confronted with the evidence against him, the apprehended accused confessed of his involvement in the highway robbery and disclosed that they had committed many crime like this earlier as well. "The accused disclosed his involvement in more than two dozen incidents with similar modus operandi in Delhi and Gurugram, Haryana, " said DCP Arya.
