Heroic head constable catches duo after 25-min bike chase

The streets of North-West Delhi were transformed to a live theatre as it witnessed a cop on bike chasing a car with two criminals.

Making the ambience apt for a Hollywood action plot, a constable of Delhi Police chased armed criminals for 25 minutes and over five kilometres.

The vigilant constable knew he would soon be overpowered by the criminals, so he rang up one of his seniors keeping him updated about their chase routes. Soon, cops from adjoining police stations immediately swung into action. The car-bike chase was now joined by several cops based on wireless information sent by the head constable.

Head constable Daizy Dagar from Ashok Vihar was returning from school duty when his eyes fell on Hyundai Verna car. The number plate and grey colour of the car sent shivers down his spine as he recalled that it is the same 'wanted' car involved in various robbery incidents in Delhi.

Daizy noticed the suspicious movements of the car till he realised that the miscreants in the car were up for some planned crime.

"As their eyes met mine, I knew the criminals got to know that I recognised them and they quickly made a U-turn. I decided not to let them away and gave them a chase. I knew they would be armed so I took my seniors on phone while chasing them," said Dagar.

Acting on instinct, Dagar called up Inspector Maan, who in turn informed other top cops for reinforcements. Meanwhile, Dagar kept chasing and keep other cops updated about their routes. Soon, the cops from the adjoining police stations in North West Delhi took to streets for the chase.

After realising that Dagar was a tough competitor, the criminals left the car on road and vanished in a residential locality Shakti Nagar Extension brandishing pistols in their hands."The two tried deceiving us by walking casually but our policemen hawk's eye nailed them. They fired in desperation but we managed to manually overpower Nikhil and Narender," said Joint CP Northern range Rajesh Khurana.

The duo, Narender and Nikhil, had met each other in Tihar Jail as they were kept in the same cell alphabetically, developing friendship. Later, their associate Sonu was nabbed.

A local-made pistol, live cartridges, Hyundai car and cash in both Indian and foreign currencies worth Rs 31 lakh were recovered. With the arrest, cops solved eight more cases."Head constable Dagar, along with other policemen, would be felicitated," said Khurana.
