Heatwave: Remedial lessons for classes 10, 12 postponed
NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has postponed the remedial lessons for students of classes X and XII until further notice, due to the hot weather in the city. The direction came after the Directorate of Education extended the summer break for students up to class VIII until July 7. "Keeping in mind the extreme heat wave in Delhi, I have directed the DoE to postpone remedial classes for Grade 10 & 12 until further notice. We care about the health of all our students as well as our teachers," tweeted Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
Previously, the Delhi government on Sunday extended by a week the summer vacation in city schools for students till Class 8 in view of hot weather conditions in the national capital. The schools for up to classes 8 will reopen from July 8 while for the higher classes will reopen from Monday as per the earlier schedule. "In view of the hot weather in Delhi, the summer vacation for students up to class 8 is being extended till July 8. For other classes the schools will reopen as per earlier schedule," Sisodia said.
Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister, clarified that the order will be applicable for both government and private schools.
Weather officials have predicted that heat wave may continue in the city. Meanwhile, light rains are expected across Delhi-NCR in the next 48 hours, with weather conditions becoming favourable for the progress of the southwest monsoon into the region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
