Head constable shoots self dead in Mukherjee Nagar hospital

New Delhi: A head constable of Delhi Police allegedly shot himself dead inside a hospital in north west Delhi on Tuesday.
The incident was reported from Rajan Babu TB hospital in Mukherjee Nagar and the deceased was identified as Rajender, who had been deputed with the Third Battalion of Delhi Police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Aslam Khan told reporters on Tuesday that around 3.30 pm, an information was received from the central control room about a gunshot injury to a policeman in the hospital, located at Kingsway Camp.
"On reaching the spot, it was learnt that one head constable Rajender, of the Third Battalion, who was deployed on duty (8 am to 8 pm) with an undertrial prisoner (a TB Patient who was admitted there since February 8 for treatment) suffered a gunshot injury in his temporal region.
"He was shifted to Trauma Centre where he breathed his last," said the DCP.
However, the police have said that the inmate did not manage to escape after the policeman shot himself dead.
Police sources said they have started an investigation and are looking into all possible angles.
They are also verifying whether or not the deceased was depressed over family-related issues.
"Further investigation is on as to how the deceased head constable had shot himself," said a police official.
Sources claimed that Rajender was accompanied by a senior official. After the official left the building, the gunshot was heard and everyone rushed to the spot where the head constable lying down in a pool of blood.
He was immediately taken to Civil Hospital Trauma Centre, where he was declared brought dead on arrival.
Last year, on August 27, a Head Constable posted with Delhi Police shot himself dead in Delhi Cantonment area. In a similar incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector Devender shot himself dead with his service revolver near Yamuna Bank.
