Harassed by boy in her locality, 17-yr-old kills self

NEW DELHI: A 17-year-old girl in Rohini district's Alipur area committed suicide, after being allegedly harassed by some boys in her neighbourhood, police said on Saturday.
Cops further said they recovered a suicide note, where the girl apologised to her parents about the extreme step and told them about being harassed by some boys.
Though she girl did not specify any names in the note, police said the parents told them about a neighbourhood boy who used to accompany her during her morning walks and harassed her.
The boy and the girl were reportedly preparing for some physical tests.
Police said the girl's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan by her family, who immediately informed the police. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
"We immediately lodged an FIR in the case and have made several teams to nab the accused, who we have identified. A case under the POCSO Act and section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC has been registered," said DCP (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta.
Sources claimed that the girl's family was about to shift to another place, as the girl was continuously being harassed by the boy, despite repeated objections.
They added that the girl was not able to cope up with the pressure, which led her to take the extreme step.
The incident comes just days after a Class IX student of a private school located in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar committed suicide in her residence in Noida.
The girl's family told police that two of her school teachers had sexually harassed her, causing her severe mental trauma and pushing her to take the extreme step.
Acting on the parents' complaint, police had, last week, booked the two teachers and the principal of the school for abetment of suicide.
