Hansraj College library goes digital

Delhi University's Hansraj College has modified its library to become hi-tech. The college has equipped the library with Radio Frequency Identification Device System, which will benefit the students, teachers to check the availability of books and return through high-tech mode.
College officials claim that this is the only college equipped with such kind of facilities. Meanwhile, a smart card is being issued to the students to avail the facilities of hi-tech library system.
Through this system, it is very easy to find a specific book among thousands books piled in library. "If a student has to find a book under this system, then he can approach the book rack and find a special type of handle," said an official.
He also added that an SMS would be generated from the system to the concerned student or teacher about the returning date of the book to library. Meanwhile, a handle can be provided inside the library, which needs to move on the rack by putting the title of book and immediately handle will inform the whereabouts of the book.
The software will send a reminder message to the book holder and will also inform- since how long the book has been issued and when is the returning date. It will also show the penalty for not giving back, similarly, a drop junction has also been built, where students can return the books.
"It is also a feature that if a student wants a book and not in the library, then with the help of software a message will be sent to the student who has that book," said an official.
During the first phase, "all the books available in the library equipped with RFID and later in the next phase all the books will be made available online. Through this, student can read the book while sitting in the house or anywhere," said Dr Rama, Principal, Hansraj College.
