Gzb authorities seal over 50 firecracker manufacturing units

Ghaziabad: Following the orders from Supreme Court, the Ghaziabad administration on Tuesday sealed over 50 fireworks shops and manufacturing factories in Farrukhnagar area of Sahibabad.
The apex court on Monday banned the sale of fireworks in Delhi-NCR region ahead of the Diwali on October 19. The decision came in the wake of alarming pollution levels which are caused by the toxic gases due to burning of crackers.
The court simultaneously suspended all licenses issued by the administration to shopkeepers that allowed them to sell fireworks. The ban on the sale of crackers will continue till November 1 in the NCR.
On Tuesday, SMD Ghaziabad Atul Kumar along with police force carried out raid in Farrukhnagar which is considered the hub for firecracker shops.
"We carried out raids in Farrukhnagar and sealed around 50 firecracker shops and manufacturing units that have been banned by the Supreme Court. We will keep a survey in the area to ensure that the SC ban is compiled with and no unit pursues operations of selling fire crackers," said Atul Kumar, SDM, Loni.
Meanwhile, SDM of Ghaziabad Prem Ranjan Singh on Tuesday recommended suspension of regional manager of pollution board along with 11 others from pollution board office for not participating in the enforcement drive of enforcing the ban which was done in a survey by various enforcement agencies on Monday.
The SDM has written a letter to district magistrate Ritu Maheshwari, Singh recommended suspension of regional manager Ajay Sharma along with 11 officials from pollution board.
