Gurugram Police solve year-old rape case, accused arrested

In a major success for Gurugram Police, its team on Sunday cracked a year-long case where a seven-year-old was raped in Sushant Lok area on April 29, 2016.
According to the police, it was a tough case for them to crack as they did not have enough leads to get hold of the culprit.
The police mainly relied on the CCTV images to catch hold of the alleged rapist. The person who has been arrested has been identified as Amish Dubey who is from Madhya Pradesh and was working as a professional in company in Sector-44. The accused has been taken on police remand after being presented in the district court on Sunday afternoon. He will be charged under various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) act.
According to the rape- survivor's family, the culprit was not known to the girl.
"A large number of police personnel worked round the clock in solving the case. The biggest challenge in this case that unlike in most of the cases where the rape survivor knows her tormentor, in this case neither the family nor the victim knew about the alleged criminal. We therefore had limited resources to solve the case," said a senior police official.
There have been several incidents of brutal sexual assaults on the minor girls this year where girls of age of as less as five years have been raped, killed and dumped.
Most of these cases have been reported from the slum areas of the city. In 2016, there were more than 100 cases of sexual crimes reported against minors.
"Even though our officials are working towards ensuring safety of women and children there is also a greater need for society to change its mindset," said Sumit Kuhar DCP (Crime).
