Goons threaten bizman, ask him to cough up ₹60 lakh

Gurugram: The vulnerability of traders and businessmen in Gurugram again came to the fore, after there was a daylight shooting was reported on Friday, aimed at intimidating a businessman to pay a ransom of Rs 60 lakh to miscreants.
The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, when certain members identifying themselves as members of Kaushal gang reached the victim's Manish Khattar residence at Sector-31.
Upon meeting Khattar, they warned him that even though they had contacted his father for payment of Rs 50 lakh, there was no response and they had thus increased the ransom to Rs 60 lakh. After warning him, they fired three gunshots at Khattar's car and fled the spot. Later, the complaint was registered at the Sector-40 police station by Khattar.
This is not for the first time when such brazen incidents have occurred in the city. Last year, an accountant at a famous bakery in the city narrowly escaped, after members of one Gurjar gang fired shots at him in front of a large crowd.
Just like in Khattar's case, the shooters wanted to intimidate the owner of the bakers to pay ransom money. They were later arrested.
In what could prove to be a major challenge for law enforcement officials, even though leaders of many dreaded gangs in Gurugram are lodged in jail, their henchmen are carrying out their dirty deeds. The issue of traders and businessmen being targeted by goons has been a major law and order challenge in the outskirts of Gurugram.
Moreover, incidents of traders and businessmen being targeted are also being reported from the city centre.
