Ggn residents stage protest against frequent power cuts

Gurugram: Long duration of power outages finally resulted in the anger on the streets when citizens began protesting against the power department for a long duration of power outages.

Worse than the change in weather also did not do any good as the creaky power infrastructure again failed.

With most parts of the city facing power cuts for more than 12 to 16 hours, angry residents from areas of Sushant Lok and Palam Vihar held a protest march against the power officials on Thursday.

According to the power department, the power outages were caused by the maintenance being carried out in certain areas.

They, however, conceded that breakdown in the areas also resulted in power cuts. Most of the residents have got used to inverters, diesel generators or worse candlelights.

However, failure of the state-run electricity department yet again has resulted in an open expression of disappointment and anger over poor infrastructure at the public forum.

Areas that were adversely affected included Sushant –Lok, South-City, DLF Phase-3 Palam Vihar, and sectors of New Gurugram. Most of the angry residents took to the social media to vent their ire on social media.

What is the use of boasting about a power surplus Haryana, when large parts of its most progressive city are still running on generators, was one of the angry reactions on social media after the long power cuts?

While it is estimated that 3 crore units of power daily will be used in the city this time, the city is every time surpassing the record.

Recently there were reports of 3.5 crore units of power being consumed in the

city.
