Gender Sensitisation course organised in the Capital

NEW DELHI: In a bid to provide the solution to the abusive relationship among the dweller of the national Capital, a city-based NGO Sampurna has stepped in the society to break stereotypes of gender classification that prevails in the human clans for centuries. Eversince, people often consider "Sex and Gender" as homogeneous terms, whereas the two are completely different.

"Simply stating sex is a natural or biological concept, on the contrary, gender deals with personal, societal and cultural perceptions of sexuality". said Dr Shobha Vijender, a professional social worker, who is conducting a certificate course on 'Gender Sensitisation' from June 4 to June 23 under her NGO which has been operating in Delhi for the past 23 years.

"It is not always about Women, sometimes men are victims too. True gender sensitisation can only happen when the problems of males are accounted for by the society," said an office bearer of the organisation. "I have learnt a lot from today's lecture and it has been a real eye-opener." said a girl attending the course.

'Sampurna' has been previously involved with the Delhi Aadarsh School Mission in which the toilets across the MCD schools in Delhi were made clean and usable. The NGO and Delhi Police have also collaborated for a self-defence training programme for the girls.
