Gautam Buddh Nagar suffers huge traffic police shortage

Noida/Greater Noida: Gautam Buddh Nagar is facing an acute shortage of traffic cops which have made them face several problems in maintaining a proper traffic management system in the city and penalize the violators , said a senior traffic cop.
"Our department is running three-four times short of manpower. We have written several times to the higher officials demanding deployment of extra officers in the district. If we get the required amount of cops in the district, we can work to improve traffic management in the city and can keep a proper check on the violations" said Anil Kumar Jha, superintendent of police (traffic), Gautam Buddh Nagar.
As of now there are 2 traffic inspectors, 2 traffic sub-inspectors, 54 head constables and 108 constables deployed in the district. The shortage of officials has also restricted the traffic police to penalize the violators hence attracting several road fatalities. As per the records, more number of people are losing their lives in road accidents than due to crime. However the number of vehicles penalized by the police in first nine months has exceeded the total penalty collected in 2016 but the figures are not satisfactory when compared to the traffic violations witnessed on roads and also the number of lives lost due to the violation of these rules.
In the first nine months this year, the total fine collected by Gautam Buddh Nagar Traffic Police in 2017 has exceeded.
As per the district traffic department records, the department has collected around Rs 1.70 crore in fines from 91,683 erring drivers. The officials are expecting the figures to cross Rs 2 crore by the end of this year.
