Gaurav Gupta quizzed in cattle traders' assault case

Delhi Police on Monday identified Gaurav Gupta, one of the accused in the cattle traders' assault case, and questioned him at Kalkaji Police station. Gupta was called for questioning after he claimed that he was a PFA member and made a PCR call to the cops on Saturday night about the cattle truck.

Later, a group of alleged 'Gau rakshaks' attacked the occupants of a truck claiming to be members of 'People for Animal' and brutally assaulted them near Kalkaji, South East Delhi.

While the cops are investigating Gupta's role in the incident, the PFA has already distanced itself from Gaurav.

Meanwhile, Zahid, a resident of Pataudi, Haryana, and neighbour of the three victims Ashu, Rizwan and Kamil, said that the three are extremely scared after the incident.

"They are in a state of shock. Kamil has been passing blood in his urine and his parents are scared. Rizwan and Ashu had food on Tuesday, though Rizwan struggled as he has injuries on his jaw." said Zahid.

The three men were attacked by a mob of 15-20 after they were intercepted near Kalkaji by a group of men and a woman and brutally beaten for allegedly transporting buffalos in "a bad state".

The cops arrested the injured traders under the Prevention to Cruelty to Animals Act and they were later let off on bail.

A journalist passing by recorded the whole episode on her mobile phone which showed men with 'tilak' shouting that they stopped the truck. The three men were shown sitting on the pavement with injuries, that too in the presence of policemen.

The cops have arrested one Shashank Sharma, a resident of Rohini, for the assault and are scanning the video. More arrests are likely to follow.
