Gas agency manager robbed of Rs 37 lakh in Ggn Sector-40

Gurugram: In a day-time robbery reported from Sector-40 of the city, three masked men loot cash worth nearly Rs 37 lakh from a gas agency manager on Monday afternoon.

Police said the incident took place around 1 pm when the victim was going to the bank to deposit the large amount. The victim told cops that on his way, three masked men on a motorcycle reportedly stopped him and looted him by threatening to shoot him.

According to law enforcement officials, the three men worked in tandem. One of the culprits threatened the victim by brandishing the gun, the other slapped him so as to scare him, and the third snatched the bag containing the money.

Police have filed a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and started investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that the three men were travelling on a Hero Splendor bike, with the last digits of its registration number being 8121.

"We are trying to retrieve CCTV images so that we can identify the snatchers. We have been able to get some evidence and will catch the culprits soon," said a senior official from Gurugram Police.

Though Gurugram Police officials often claim that incidents of snatchings have reduced, at least two snatchings are reported on an average daily from the city.

Cases of snatching have been on the rise, in spite of snatching being a non-bailable offence in Haryana. Conviction in snatching cases can result in five to ten years of imprisonment.

Some of the challenges in solving snatching cases include the lack of filing of FIR in most cases and inability of victim to identify the accused, who mostly hunt in groups.

Recently, a man accused of snatching a cellphone from a women was let-off by the court due to lack of evidence.
