Gahlot tells DM's to identify gram sabha land for playgrounds

NEW DELHI: Delhi Revenue Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday ordered district magistrates to identify gram sabha land in rural areas under their jurisdiction where playgrounds can be developed.
According to the order, the land will be identified in consultation with local MLAs, who will also form a committee comprising of youth of their areas to be responsible for the maintenance of these playgrounds.
The move is aimed at encouraging youth towards sports and prompting such facilities in the Capital.
"Gram sabha land shall be identified in each rural village by the District Magistrates (Revenue) concerned where children of the village can play," Gahlot stated.
"The land shall not be allotted or transferred in the name of any authority, but will continue to be gram sabha land," the minister's order stated.
Gahlot, who also holds the portfolio of Transport and Law minister, said the MLA of every area will form a committee of not more than 21 youth, who will be responsible for maintenance of the land where the playgrounds will come up.
