From governance to poll campaign, AAP banks on social media & crowdfunding

NEW DELHI: From governance to Lok Sabha poll campaign, the AAP is emphasising on the social media. Recently, in a first of its kind, Education Minister Manish Sisodia urged the people on social media to ask him questions on entrepreneurship curriculum and he would answer them online. Before Lok Sabha polls, the AAP has also come out with a short film on Atishi who is the AAP's East Delhi Lok Sabha in-charge. The AAP leaders are also doing crowdsourcing campaigns.

Aam Aadmi Party's East Delhi Lok Sabha in-charge Atishi launched a crowdfunding campaign for the 2019 Lok Sabha election at 3 pm on Wednesday. Atishi's supporters online trended #ISupportAtishi and helped raise funds for the AAP leader. Several senior political leaders, including former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha, Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani, actor Javed Jaffery, lawyer-activist Karuna Nundy, among others raised funds. "AAP's main ground USP has been the door to door campaign but we all know to survive in today's political picture we need a strong social media presence. We are not hiring any PR agency but we are training out volunteers to handle the social media effectively," said AAP leader Akshay Marathe. The party also informed that within three hours of launching the campaign on the crowdfunding platform for Atishi, over Rs two lakh has already been donated by supporters.

"Atishi's efforts have dramatically improved the condition of Delhi's government schools. Someone like her needs to have a voice in Parliament. I appeal to the people of East Delhi to vote for her and elect her to the Lok Sabha," Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha said. The AAP also has a team of IITians and people from IIMs who also help the party in social media and also in chalking out campaign strategies.
