Fraudster apprehended after victims, police lay trap in CP

New Delhi: After laying a trap in Connaught Place area, complainants who were cheated by a fraudster name Sunny, caught him with the help of police. The investigating agency found that more than ten persons were duped of their costly mobile phones and watches.

According to police, the arrested accused, a resident of Uttam Nagar, used to contact those persons who uploaded the advertisements of costly mobile phones including I-Phone and watches in online exchange portal.

Initial investigation of police suggested that the accused adopted unique modus operandi to commit the crime. He used to fix the meeting points with the victims after banks get closed. "In one such case, after getting a mobile phone with the bill from the possible target, Sunny told the victim that all banks are closed so he will transfer the money online," said the investigator.

Police said that minutes before leaving, the accused started the money transfer process. "A message came in victim's phone claiming that the process of transfer initiated," police said. After receiving the processing message, the victim was satisfied that money will be transferred to his account. After leaving the meeting place, Sunny cancelled the transaction and switch off his mobile phone.

"Next morning the victim was shocked to know that no money was transferred in the bank account and when phone call was made, his mobile phone was switched off," said officer. The Connaught Place police arrested him near a metro station. "We had received more than 10 complaints against the accused," said police officer adding that they told complainants to form their WhatsApp group to nab the accused. Victims laid a trap by posting an advertisement of selling phone in online website. "Sunny contacted one of the victim who posted the advertisement and the meeting point was Rajiv Chowk metro station. Once he came there to meet, the accused was caught by the police team," added the officer.

During the investigation, it came out that after duping the victims, he sold their phones or costly watches to other people in less price.

Sources claimed that the investigation is also going on against the accused to identify whether he was the same person who duped a resident of Khyala of his I-Phone X mobile phone on January 20. The same modus operandi used in this case by the accused. The team of SHO Vinod Narang (Connaught Place) made the catch.
