Four arrested in Gzb for duping doctor by posing as health dept officials

Ghaziabad: Four men have been arrested in Ghaziabad for duping several people, including doctors, to the tune of lakhs of rupees by posing as fake food and drug inspectors, police said on Friday.

They added that another accused, posted as a Delhi Police inspector, is yet to be arrested.

The arrested accused have been identified as Ravinder alias Tinku, the prime accused and a native of Sahibabad, Preetam Singh from Ghaziabad, and Kapil and Kamal alias Bhoore, both natives of Delhi.

All accused were nabbed on Thursday night, following raids conducted at their separate hideouts in Ghaziabad.

A police official said that the accused, posing as drug inspectors of the district health department, had duped a city-based doctor of Rs 5 lakh.

"The gang members had, on September 9, posed as senior officers from the district health department, while Kamal introduced himself as a health inspector, and barged into the residence of Dr Mahanand in Rampark area," said Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Circle Officer, Sahibabad.

"The team threatened Mahanand of indulging in false practice and using expired drugs, and threatened to send him to jail if he did not follow their direction. They asked a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the doctor in order to leave him. However, the doctor paid them Rs 5 lakh," added Mishra.

"Later when he enquired at the district health department, he found that no such officers work with the health department record. He then registered a case in this regard," Mishra continued.

The officer further said that Ravinder, who was acquainted with the doctor, had hatched the plot to dupe him after he came to know that the doctor has earned lakhs of rupees after selling a plot in Ghaziabad.

"During interrogation, the accused disclosed that Ravinder, who is good friend of the doctor hatched the plot. He assigned Kamal, Pritam and Kapil with the task of duping Mahanand," said Mishra.

Additionally, Police seized four mobile phones, two fake medical certificates and two fake identity from the possession of the accused persons.
