Four arrested for beating man who stole from them to death

New Delhi: Four men were arrested by Delhi Police for kidnapping a pickpocket, making ransom calls to his family and beating him to death in their car.
The four arrested men were identfied as Devvrat Rana, Gulshan, Sachin and Gobinder Singh police said on Saturday.
Investigations revealed that the accused were in Kamla Market area on the intervening night of January 30 and 31, where the victim Shahzeb pickpocketed Devvrat's mobile phone and Rs 40,000.
Soon, Shahzeb was caught by the three men. While the stolen cellphone was recovered, Shahzeb did not have the cash.
Enraged, the men beat him up and then forced him into their car. He was taken to Mukhmelpur village, all the while being beaten up.
They then grabbed his cellphone and called his friend Jamal and then his mother, demanding Rs 40,000 for his release. However, both of them said they did not have any.
The accused then beat up Shahzeb black and blue and and threw him out of the car after reaching Mukarba village.
Around 4 am on January 31, Shahzeb's brother Mehartaj received a call that his brother was admitted in Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, Rohini. Before Shahzeb's family could reach the hospital, he died.
Anto Alphonse, Additional DCP (Central Delhi), said that the accused were later arrested, after footage of CCTV cameras and the phone records of the accused were analysed.
