For first time in Ggn, Haryana govt to set up pet clinic

Gurugram: In a first of its kind initiative, the Haryana government will set up a pet clinic in Gurugram. This will be the first pet clinic that will be set up by the government not only in the city but also in the state. Taking cognisance of most of the private clinics providing an expensive treatment, the government took the decision on the proposal of setting up a clinic specially dedicated for treatment of pet dogs.

Not only domesticated dogs but the government plans to provide affordable treatment to stray dogs which also have a large population in the city. As of now, most of the stray dogs get treated in the private NGO. There are plans to open such clinics in different parts of the city.

The government agencies hope that with affordable clinics now available there will also be a reduction in the cases of dog bites, a problem that continues to plague the city.

Increase in the cases of dog bite continues to be a major challenge in Gurugram. According to the RTI report in 2017, there were 7113 cases of dog bites that were registered in Gurugram. These were 1372 cases more than what was registered in 2016 which was at 5,741.
