Five of family die as speeding truck rams into stationary car

Greater Noida: In a fatal road accident, five persons of a family, including three children died while five others were critically wounded when a speeding truck rammed into a stationary Wagon-R car near Fauzi Dhaba in Deri Maccha village of Badalpur area in Greater Noida on late Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:30 am on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Manveer Singh (38), son Arjun (12), daughter Khushi (6), sister-in-law Neetu (26), and her daughter Nisha (8).
Police said that the accident took place while they were returning after attending a marriage ceremony in Bhovapur village in Ghaziabad. All the victims hail from Dadri area.
Among the injured were Sanju (32), Prashant (4), Deepanshu (2), Kashish (5) and Anjali (14).
"The family was returning after attending the marriage ceremony of Manveer's nephew. All the victims belong to same family. The incident occurred when Manveer who was driving the car had parked the vehicle at a Dhaba," said Mukesh Kumar, station house officer, Badalpur police station.
Police said that the driver of the speeding truck lost his control and rammed into the car.
"The truck loaded with goods was coming from behind and when it hit the car, all the occupants were present inside the car. The intensity of the collision was such that the car was badly crushed," added Kumar.
Passersby informed the police about the incident and police somehow rescued the victims from the mangled car. They were then taken to Sarvodaya Hospital in Ghaziabad where doctors declared five as brought dead while those who managed to survive are stated to have suffered multiple grievous injuries.
The truck driver fled the spot after the incident. The police have seized the truck and are trying to trace the owner with the help of vehicle's registration number which is stated to be registered in Delhi.
Family members and relatives blocked the National Highway demanding arrest of the accused driver.
Police said that a case of death due to negligence has been registered against the truck driver. "We have registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 279, 338, 304A and 427 against the unidentified truck driver and have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused truck driver," Kumar continued.
