Five held for hailing Ola cab and scooting with it

Five persons were arrested on Monday for robbing an Ola car, police said on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Rajesh, Puneet, Deepak, Rajesh and Neeraj.
According to police, the five accused were identified on the basis of technical and manual surveillance after which a team from Model Town police station managed to arrest them from their residences in various parts of Delhi.
Further, the police have also managed to recover the Ola car used in the commission of the crime. "The accused were arrested before they could dispose of the stolen Maruti Swift Dezire by falsely claiming that it was an Ola car. They did this thinking that it would yield them a good amount of money," said a police official privy to the investigation.
According to police, Rakesh Kumar Mehta had bought an old mobile phone while another accused bought a SIM card and they installed the OLA app on the phone.
The accused had planned on using the OLA app to lure the cab towards them and waited for the cab driver to arrive. On July 28, the accused had booked a cab from GTB Nagar metro station by feeding Bakhtwapur village as their destination. When the cab driver picked them, the accused stayed calm for a while, taking the driver into confidence and later subdued him and took the car under their control, said police.
"They tied the driver's feet and legs with adhesive tape and dumped him at Kushak Jungle. He somehow managed to escape and reported the matter to the police where the case was finally registered," the official added.
