Five arrested for trying to rob petrol pump in Greater Noida
Greater Noida: Noida Special Task Force (STF) police have arrested five criminals following a gun battle in Beta-2 police station area of Greater Noida on Monday afternoon. Cops said that the accused were planning to kill a petrol pump manager in sector Pi-I of Greater Noida and rob the cash from petrol pump.
According to police, those arrested were identified as Sunny and Rahul both natives of Hapur district, Umesh Gupta of Basti, Suresh Singh of Aligarh and Paras, a native of Bulandshahr district.
Raj Kumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Noida STF said that the accused were arrested while they had come to commit a robbery in Beta-2 area of Greater Noida.
"Police received an information that a few criminals have planned robbery at the Indian Oil petrol pump at ITBP roundabout in Greater Noida. A team was deployed near the petrol pump and they spotted the criminals riding in a WagonR car and signalled them to stop. The criminals, instead, opened fire on police and tried to run away. Police chased them and intercepted them near Nato ki Maddheya and in retaliatory firing two criminals sustained bullet injuries in their legs. A STF police personnel was also injured in the gun battle," said Mishra.
The officer further said that the gang had planned to kill the petrol pump manager and rob cash from him.
"While interrogating the accused persons, they told police that a petrol pump employee had told them about the movement of cash from the petrol pump to bank and they hitched a conspiracy to commit the robbery. On Monday, they knew that the bank manager would be going to deposit cash which was collected for last three days but could not be deposited because of bank holidays."
"The criminals stayed in sector 65 of Noida on Sunday evening and decided to commit robbery on Monday morning. However, police successfully nabbed them and the robbery could have been averted. The gang members also told police that they had also planned to rob a jeweller in Bareilly district in the upcoming days," added Mishra.
Cops said that the arrested criminals were found to have been involved in various other robbery incident in past also and have been imprisoned in various criminal cases.
