FIR against DND authorities for 'heavy' pruning of trees

Noida: Gautam Buddh Nagar police registered an FIR against the Delhi Noida Delhi (DND) Toll Road Service Limited for allegedly pruning trees 'heavily' on the DND flyway to make advertisement hoardings visible and also make space to put up more hoardings.
Police also registered an FIR against the contractor of the Toll Management Services Limited (TMSL), under Sections 4 and 10 of Uttar Pradesh Protection and Preservation of Tree Act, 1976.
Earlier, the DND flyway management in their explanation to the Forest department defended themselves saying that they have nothing to do with the hoardings or the tree pruning. They also claimed to be unaware of who had pruned the trees and the land where hoardings are installed also not belonged to them.
However, police said as the FIR has been registered they will launch a probe into the matter and will record statements of all concerned and accordingly decide the action.
According to the complaint filed by environmental activist Vikrant Tongad, the branches of over 100 trees have been cut in past seven years to install dozens of new hoarding and make older ones visible on the divider of the DND flyway as well as along this road between Noida and Delhi.
"Finally after years-long struggle, we got a probe launched into the matter. Such cutting of trees, without the permission of Forest Department is illegal and must be followed by strict actions against those responsible for this," said Tongad.
