Festive season: 235 calls made in 11 days to report crime

New Delhi: Dussehra reminds of high footfall in Puja Pandals, children enjoying mela and delicious foods. But on the other side, city cops remained on their toes as during the festive season Delhi Police received more than 40 calls on their emergency number related to eve-teasing, molestation, and rape in which action was taken.
The police data accessed by Millennium Post from (September 18 to 28) claimed that around 49 calls were made on helpline numbers –of which 34 calls were of eve teasing, 13 of rape and two calls of molestation. After receiving the calls, police did not waste time in taking action. No calls of stalking were received during the period. The total number of related to the different crime which Delhi Police received in 11 days was 235 calls on 100 emergency number whereas 1091 women helpline number also received 15 calls.
According to a senior police official, action was taken in these calls. The highest number of calls was received on September 26 which was 29 whereas on September 21 around 26 calls were received on 100 emergency number.
The data further claimed that the highest number of eve-teasing call was of five which was received on September 26 and the same number was on Thursday. Only two cases of molestation were received on September 23 and 25. On September 19, 24 and 26 three calls each day was received. Police sources claimed that the calls came from different areas in the Capital. The lowest number of calls was 10 which was received on September 22.
According to police, during Dusherra season, a tight vigil on eve-teasers was maintained as police personnel including the woman constable was deployed in plain clothes nearby pandals and Ramlila.
During the season, police increased security around malls, pandals, Ramlila and markets. "The private security guards who are deployed at the Ramlila were given training by Delhi Police about how to check and frisk," said a police official.
The Delhi Police data stated that they have received around 289 Ramlila and Dusherra application from the city whereas around 227 application of Durga Puja celebration.'' The application consists of both small and big Ramlila and Puja Pandal which was heavily guarded by us," said a senior police official from Delhi Police.
This festive season not only Delhi Police was on alert to avoid any untoward incident but also they checked their police personnel alertness during the festival time. In North West, Delhi police have spotted more than 30 vulnerable spots which will be heavily guarded.
The safety of the women in the Capital remained the top priority of the city police as they have arrested more than 9000people involved in rape and molestation with women. In the year 2016 Delhi Police also registered 2155 rape and 4165 molestation cases whereas in current year (till August) more than 1400 rape and more than 2000 cases of molestation was registered.
