'Fearless' women run on Delhi's streets at midnight

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on late Friday night organised a 'Fearless Midnight Women's Run' at Inner Circle, Connaught Place in New Delhi.
Police said the aim of the event was to instil a sense of security for women on the streets of Delhi.
Hundreds of women expressed their support for the campaign by taking part in the run and showcasing their fearless nature by going out at night in large numbers.
Several female officers of Delhi Police also participated in the midnight run.
One of the organisers of the event told Millennium Post: "For too long, women everywhere have been asked to conform to society's narrow views of do's and don'ts, behaviour, dress and timing.
"The 'Fearless Midnight Women's Run' is an endeavour to get women to make a strong statement about their right to reclaim spaces. It is the platform the cops say they have created for them to exercise this choice," she added.
The three-kilometre run turned out to be a decent success, with some noted personalities also taking part in the run, including Bollywood actor and model Milind Soman.
"The event is an effort to send out a strong message about a women's right to reclaim spaces and every woman who believes in herself celebrates that belief. Women are a strong personality and nothing can stop them from being Fearless.
"This run is also to spread message to the society regarding women's power to inspire, empower and change," said Ajay Chowdhary, Joint Commissioner of Police, New Delhi Range.
