Extreme cold kills homeless man

NEW DELHI: The body of a 50-year-old vagabond was found near a Mohalla clinic in Geeta colony of east Delhi's Shahdara area on Thursday morning. The probable cause of death is cold, said a police official.

Police have sent the body for autopsy. The actual cause of the death would be ascertained after autopsy report. Police teams are trying to identify the man. No injury marks have been found on the body. Nothing suspicious has been found.

An inquest probe has been initiated into the matter to investigate the death. Police said that he had come to get treatment in Mohalla clinic.

A local told the police that he was asking about the opening time of Mohalla Clinic on Wednesday evening.

Police said during the investigation, it was revealed by locals that the deceased was from Uttarakhand and lived near a crematorium in Geeta Colony.

According to reports, a total of 96 homeless people have died of cold in the past two weeks in the national capital.

The maximum deaths have been reported in north Delhi.

Meanwhile, around 331 deaths have occurred between December 2018 and January 2019. Of these, 235 people died in December alone.
